The Madison County Sheriff's Office reported the following incidents:

Theft: On May 12, a man reported that another man he knows stole the battery out of his car while it was parked at a garage on Georgia Highway 106. The complainant said the acquaintance admitted taking the battery but refused to discuss the matter. The complainant said he is willing to file charges.

Theft: On May 12, a Norwood Road, Hull, woman reported someone stole a riding lawn mower parked behind her house.

Arrest: On May 13, deputy David Kidd was dispatched to Blacks Creek Church Road for a domestic dispute. Kidd found that one of the people involved in the dispute had been driving a car and, after speaking with her, realized she was under the influence. Jenny Haley, 39, was charged with DUI.

Harassment: On May 13, deputy Douglas Martin was called to Pleasant Acres Farm Road, where a woman received some harassing text messages from her daughter, who was in Florida. The teenager used profanity in the messages.

Threat: On May 13, a Hull man said his neighbor had threatened to burn his house down. The man said that on previous occasions, the neighbor had driven by his home and shouted "I'm in the KKK, and I will bring them down here and burn a cross in your yard."

Dispute: On May 13, a Hull woman complained that her grandmother hit her with a broomstick after the woman ignored her grandmother's wish for her to get off the telephone. The grandmother admitted hitting her granddaughter for not obeying her.

Burglary: On May 13, deputy Chris Guest was dispatched to a Smith Road home after a burglar alarm was activated. The intruder had entered the house through a window and left through a door. The residence was ransacked, and some items were stolen.

Forgery: On May 13, a Wellington Drive man said someone had obtained his debit card number and tried to purchase a plane ticket in Jesup, Fla., for $77. The bank declined the purchase.

Burglary: On May 13, deputy Mark Jerome was dispatched to a Colonial Drive home. A man said he was in the bathroom when he heard his neighbor walk in the house and call his name. When the man came out of the bathroom, he noticed his wallet, which was left in the living room, had been tampered with and was missing $15. The neighbor denied stealing the money but offered to give the man $15.

Assault: On May 13, deputy Chris Guest was dispatched to Creekwood Drive, Hull, where a woman had injuries to her stomach and ribs after an assault by her 46-year-old ex-husband. The man slapped her face, then kicked and hit her with his fists. She was transported to a hospital; he could not be located.

Assault: On May 13, Cpl. Jason Luke and deputy Josh Fowler were dispatched to a home north of the Neese community for a dispute between a woman and her daughter. The woman said her grandchildren had arrived asking for food. She explained to the children that their mother had just gotten $700 in food stamps and they should go home to eat. However, the mother's boyfriend wouldn't let them have snacks before dinner. The daughter went to her mother's house and pushed her mother against a storm door.

Theft: On May 13, an Ivywood Drive resident reported that his boat trailer tag had been lost or stolen.

Burglary: On May 13, a Joyce Court, Hull, resident reported that someone stole some items from their unlocked home.

Assault: On May 13, a Hull woman said her mother-in-law hit her face. Another woman explained she was trying to separate the two women when the mother-in-law hit the first woman so hard, it knocked off her glasses and earrings. The mother-in-law then warned the Hull woman, "If you call the police, you will regret it."

Theft: On May 13, a Buford Carey Road man said he contacted the IRS about his income tax refund. A agency representative said the refund already had been sent to his checking account. The man told the IRS he had not yet filed his tax return and someone else apparently had used his identity. The IRS said it would investigate.

Complaint: On May 14, deputy Brandon Hanley was dispatched to Cedar Lane for a report of a firearm discharge. The complainant said he was in the yard when he heard the gunfire and saw his kids run into the house. Hanley visited the house where the shot was fired, and a man there explained he was not familiar with the area and had fired his pellet gun toward the other property. The deputy, who noticed the man was drinking a Bud Light beer, warned the shooter against firing a gun toward a house or using any weapon while drinking. The complainant told the deputy the loud noise did not sound like that from a pellet gun.

Harassment: On May 14, a Seagraves Mill Road resident who reported she was having problems with her soon-to-be ex-husband said another woman called and threatened to "stomp her rear end."

Burglary: On May 14, a Charles Hart Road resident reported someone broke into her storage building, but she couldn't determine if anything was missing.

Damage: On May 14, deputy Matthew Pilkington was dispatched to Watson Mill State Park. A ranger said someone used a tool to pry the top off a fee box valued at $700. The box was destroyed, but it is unknown whether money was inside.

Theft: On May 14, a woman reported that she took her BMW to a man on Aaron Brown Road to be fixed. She left the car with him for several months, and when she went to check on it, the car was gone. She learned at Vanna Scrap Metal on Georgia Highway 17 that the BMW had been brought there and put in the scrapyard.

Robbery: On May 14, deputy Chad Parr was dispatched to an Oak Circle, Hull, home where a woman said her son was robbed. The boy said he was playing basketball outside the house when a black car with an unknown female driver and two male passengers - including one the son knew - stopped. The son said one man got out with a gun, put him in a headlock and demanded everything he had. The trio then fled the scene.

Assault: On May 14, deputy Chad Parr was dispatched to a Cowart Toole Road home. A man said his wife's boyfriend came into his bedroom, called him a derogatory name and slapped his face. The complainant said he stood up, and the boyfriend punched him in the left eye before leaving in a pickup. The woman said both men had been drinking before the altercation.

Assault: On May 15, deputy Chad Parr was dispatched to a Comer home where a man and woman had been fighting. The woman was sporting a black eye from a punch to the face. She said the man fled in a green pickup and that he was armed with a .22-caliber pistol.

Arrest: On May 15, Cpl. Klint Segars stopped a car for playing loud music on Belhaven Lane, Hull. The driver said he just left a party and was taking his friends home. Segars noticed one of the passengers smelled of alcohol. He found three bottles of Corona beer in the floorboard and one opened bottle. Daniel Armendariz, 17, of Oak Grove Road, Athens, was charged with having an open container of alcohol and underage possession.

Arrest: On May 15, deputy Alan Stratton was dispatched to look out for a Buick after someone was seen throwing a beer can out the window. Stratton spotted the car in Danielsville and watched it cross the center line. He stopped the car, which contained five people, and Danielsville policeman Steve Gary responded to assist. Stratton asked the driver, 23-year-old Richard G. Wells of Okeechobee, Fla., if he had been drinking. In slurred speech, Wells replied, "Hell, no, I have not drank anything today." Wells' blood-alcohol content tested positive, and he was charged with DUI.

Theft: On May 15, Sgt. Dennis Harbison was dispatched to a Cedar Lane, Hull, home where a woman said someone stole her medication. The woman
