Money order stolen from Elberton woman

An Elberton woman reported a gunman robbed her of a $1,000 money order Sunday afternoon behind a store on Gaines School Road, Athens-Clarke police said.

The woman said she went to a CVS Pharmacy in the Willowwood Square Shopping Center at Lexington and Gaines School roads about 3 p.m., and when she returned to her car a man with a gun got in with her. The man ordered her to drive to Elations, an adult novelty store across Gaines School Road, according to police.

The woman parked behind the store and said she struggled with the man when he grabbed the money order, police said. The robber jumped out and ran down a trail that leads to the Athens Gardens apartment complex on Coleridge Court, police said.

The woman chased the man and asked a group of people in the complex about the man, and one of the people said his name was "Carlos," according to police.
